There isn't just one kind of norm, there's different levels of being normie. There's the racists, the homophobes, the kind that live up to their stereotype, etc. Most importantly they all do have one thing in common, and that's living up to society's standards. All norms wouldn't be their normie self without social media and the ideal perfect self. Norms don't understand that they can only be perfect by being themselves, instead they try to be someone else. They either try to be a person they look up to, or they try to be a different person for someone else's benefit. If you change yourself to please others, you're a norm. People always preach "you never gonna find somebody else like me", but on the contrary, I can find anyone, who is just like you. I understand that teenagers are most likely to follow others and their trends but I don't think that's just how all teenagers are. It's not a cycle of life, it's teenagers feeling obligated to be someone they aren't in order to be somebody. But why be somebody who is just like everybody rather than being your authentic self regardless of how others view you?
